Joel Cohen, Managing Director, Stout

Joel Cohen is a Managing Director in the Dispute Consulting group. Mr. Cohen comes to the firm with over 18 years of experience in the dispute, forensic, and insolvency practice areas, most specifically focused in the financial services and asset management industries. His experience encompasses a number of significant cross-border insolvency and litigation matters, where he has served as financial advisor and consulting expert to fiduciaries, offshore liquidators, bankruptcy, and litigation trustees. He has assisted these clients in a variety of litigation consulting services, including asset tracing, fraud, Ponzi schemes, industry custom and practice for investment managers, and forensic analysis. Mr. Cohen has also led several internal investigations within the context of family office, investment advisors, and various corporate structures.

Before joining Stout, Mr. Cohen was a Managing Director at boutique financial advisory and consulting firm. Prior to that, he spent a number of years with a global financial advisory firm in its Dispute & Investigations group where he helped manage a team of CPAs, economists, attorneys, and finance professionals in executing a diverse array of complex engagements related to the various hedge fund/private equity fraud, insolvencies, and litigations that characterized the global financial crisis of 2008-09.

He was a leader in the disputes practice at a Big 4 accounting firm and senior vice president at a prominent investment bank in charge of internal investigations. Mr. Cohen has worked with premier law firms on accounting malpractice, business insurance disputes, fraud detection, and economic investigations.

Mr. Cohen has expertise in managing the expectations of various stakeholders involved in insolvency proceedings, liquidations, litigation settlements, and receiverships, namely in his capacity of assisting a board, trustee, receiver, or official liquidator with their duties, including U.S. and cross border considerations. He has extensive experience within the offshore world, regularly handling cases out of the Caribbean.

Steve LaValle, Managing Partner, WonderBotz

Steve leads WonderBotz growth strategy and client account management. He is responsible for the process and strategy services as well as  marketing, sales, alliances and client teams. Anthony A. Mingione, Partner, Labor & Employment, Blank Rome

 

Anthony A. Mingione is a partner and co-chair of Blank Rome’s General Litigation Practice Group based in the New York office.  He devotes his practice to providing business solutions to legal problems in the workplace and in litigating business disputes.  Anthony regularly advises clients on all aspects of labor and employment law, including: developing and maintaining workplace policies and procedures; negotiating and drafting employment contracts and separation agreements; protecting trade secrets and other confidential materials; conducting investigations in response to government inquiries and internal complaints; and litigating all aspects of labor and employment matters, including agency proceedings, arbitrations, court cases, and appeals.  He also has extensive experience in litigating complex commercial and ERISA/employee benefits matters.

 

Daniel Organ, Director, Brokerage Services, Cushman & Wakefield

 

Daniel Organ is a Director in the New York City office of Cushman & Wakefield. Mr. Organ specializes in Tenant representation of a wide range of clients including start-up technology companies, media, law firms, financial services firms, and non-profit organizations for both lease acquisitions and space dispositions. His attention to detail and thorough understanding of the local real estate market have resulted in superior execution and substantial savings for his clients. Most recent assignments include the relocation for the law firm Outten & Golden, The first independent offices for the nonprofit organization Women’s Refugee Commission, and the relocation of Numerix.

Mr. Organ joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2011 as an office leasing specialist. Previously, Mr. Organ worked with Equity Group Investments in both Chicago, Illinois and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil assessing Residential and Mall development in Brazil. 

 

J.D. Piro, Senior Vice President, National Practice Leader, Health Solutions Legal Consulting Group, Aon

J.D. is a senior vice president at Aon, where he leads the Health Solution’s legal consulting group and the Federal health care reform team. His client responsibilities include helping employers develop and implement strategies to identify and reduce the legal risks inherent in the health care environment. J.D. has worked in ERISA and employee benefits law, as an attorney and as a legal consultant, for more than 30 years.

A frequent speaker on health care law, J.D. has appeared on CNBC and MSNBC and has been quoted in The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fox Business, Forbes, The Huffington Post, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Chicago Sun-Times, and Business Insurance. 

J.D. is co-host of Aon’s The Bar on Health Care, a monthly podcast highlighting developments in federal and state health care law and their impact on employer group health plans.  He was named a “Top Employee Benefits Consultant” by Human Resource Executive and Risk & Insurance magazines for his “client service, creativity and innovation in problem-solving, and insurance and benefits expertise.”

J.D. graduated from Fordham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude in political science and economics and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Georgetown University, where he was an editor of The Tax Lawyer, a publication of the American Bar Association’s Section on Taxation.

Sandeep Samra, Director, International Tax London, Vistra 

Background

  • Sandeep has worked for 12 years as an international tax and transfer pricing advisor at Big 4 firms in UK and Denmark.
  • Sandeep has worked for 3 years as in house transfer pricing specialist, the majority of time spent at a US parented multinational group.

Experience

  • During his career, Sandeep has covered the full spectrum of transfer pricing issues arising in large and small multinational groups including the preparation of multi-jurisdictional transfer pricing documentation, transfer pricing audits, due diligence analysis, and policy setting/testing.
  • Sandeep has significant experience of the energy sector having spent 4 years advising Danish energy companies whilst living in Copenhagen
  • Sandeep has performed valuation of simple and complex businesses (including IP) for tax & transfer pricing purposes, permanent establishment analyses, withholding tax analyses and international tax structuring.

 Tom West, Principal, KPMG LLP

 

Tom West is a Principal in KPMG’s Passthroughs group within the Washington National Tax practice.  Tom focuses his practice on partnerships, real estate, and tax policy issues in general.  He is also a Co-National Leader of the firm’s Opportunity Zone practice.  Prior to joining KPMG, Tom served in the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury where he was Tax Legislative Counsel from January 2015 until November 2018.  He also served in an acting role as Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy from January through August 2017.  As Tax Legislative Counsel, Tom led Treasury’s domestic tax legal staff, and was the principal legal adviser to the Secretary and the Assistant Secretary on all aspects of domestic tax policy, including the development and review of regulations.
